Italy’s Tyche Bank has thrown troubled La Perla a financial lifeline. The bank that specialises in insolvency procedures, among other services, has made €500,000 available to the high-end lingerie company.
It means it can restart operations at its factory in Bologna with the bank’s deputy director general saying its mission is to support companies that have lost access to traditional credit, but have the potential to stay on the market. In this regard it looks for firms in which it recognises value with important assets such as the la Perla brand itself, which is known globally.
Back in May, a Bologna court had ruled that La Perla Manufacturing Srl (which is the firm’s manufacturing unit based in Italy) could be put into judicial administration.
The operation had been declared insolvent three months earlier and commissioners were appointed — just like administrators in the UK — to head up the operation and find potential investors to allow the business to continue and to preserve jobs.
That came after ultimate owner Tennor had exited and after the key La Perla Global Management UK unit — the British company that controls the brand and its global assets — was put into liquidation. Late last year a judge had ordered it to be closed over unpaid tax debts.
