Manchester-based online cosmetics business Beauty Bay continued to see falling sales in the year to March 2025 after sales had also plummeted the previous year.




The business has filed its annual accounts and showed that turnover dropped to £75.5 million from £93.1 million a year earlier. 

That previous drop had been down from the £134 million achieved the year before as shoppers returned to stores post-pandemic, although that had at least been a rise of 13% on its turnover levels before the pandemic when it generated sales of £82 million. 

The company said the latest drop was as much as 19% on the prior year, although it was primarily driven by a refocus in the group strategy during the year “in order to drive unit economics and profitability at an order level as opposed to chasing top-line turnover with the associated high cost of doing this”.

As in the previous year it also continued to focus further on driving its private label By Beauty Bay business with the development and launch of continued new product offerings. 

It all meant that despite the lower sales, the company delivered improved product margins with overall gross margins increasing by 3ppts to 17% in the year. It delivered a similar level of gross profit as had been seen in 2025, even with the reduction turnover.

That said, the company reported a pre-tax loss of £5.6 million, although this was much better than the £9.3 million loss in the prior year. And other profit measures also improved with EBITDA at a loss of £3.5 million compared to a loss of £7.7 million in the previous period. The net loss for the latest financial year narrowed to £5.17 million from £7.6 million.

The company is continuing to invest in its digital platforms in order to “deliver ongoing capability to adapt to changing market conditions and enable it to maintain differentiation in an increasingly competitive marketplace”.
