A unique concept and a unique competition. This month, Freitag is launching a competition aimed at artists from all disciplines. Their task: to design the most creative truck tarp.

It’s a surprising notion if one isn’t familiar with Freitag, a Swiss brand that designs its bags and small leather goods from old recycled truck tarps. The material is very sturdy and offers a degree of randomness in graphical terms given that the look of its bags depends on the tarps from which they are cut.
But the company launched in Zurich in 1993 decries the uniformity and monotony in terms of truck tarp on European highways. And so it has launched a competition in order to reverse that trend. It will accept applications, or rather two approximately 430 square foot panels from each applicant until April 30 on its website.
2000 euros in cash will go to the winner along with 1000 and 500 euros in Freitag vouchers for second and third place. But most importantly, the chosen design will be featured on a truck owned by the Swiss transport company PLANZER, a partner of the competition, helping to spread the message across the roads of Europe.
