Board sports brands Roxy and Quiksilver have introduced in France a new online rental service for their men’s, women’s and children's apparel products, active from October 23. The Boardriders Rental website allows users to rent performance apparel at affordable prices (starting from €10 per day for a men’s surfing wetsuit), rather than cram their wardrobes with surfing gear, or with apparel and accessories for skiing and snowboarding.

For consumers, it is the chance to wear high-end performance clothes designed, tested and approved by top competition skiers, snowboarders and surfers like Jérémy Florès, Stephanie Gilmore, Chloé Kim, Travis Rice and Tess Ledeux - and to avoid clutter.
“Renting is a response to the changing habits of our community, which wants to access high-quality performance products at certain times of the year. With this business model, we are supporting surfing, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, and democratising access to sport equipment,” said François Latterrade, head of Quiksilver Europe. “It is also is a way of preserving the environment. Renting chimes with the willingness to move towards greater circularity, producing less and consuming better. France is pioneering and piloting our rental service. We are extremely proud,” he added.

The website has been launched in partnership with the Lizee start-up. It enables users to rent products in just a few clicks thanks to its reverse commerce tools and the support of specialised logistics partners. Users need to indicate the dates and the items they wish to book, specifying also sport type and gender, and will receive the garments two days before leaving for their resorts.
Once they are back, they must return the products within two working days in their original packaging. Boardriders’s specialist partners then take over to check, clean and repair (if necessary) the garments, before shipping them to new users.
The Boardriders group’s idea is to greatly increase time of use and number of users for each item, thus reducing manufacturing volumes and their products’ environmental impact. For the time being, Boardriders Rental is only available in France.
Lizee is a French start-up founded in 2025 and specialised in technology and logistics solutions for brands that intend to rent or resell their products. Using proprietary software to manage complex circular economy operations, Lizee enables its customers to deploy their own rental or resale initiatives. Anna Balez and Timothée Emery, founders and directors of Lizee, have forecast that the production of new items will be halved in 20 years. Lizee is helping brands enter the circular economy era, characterised by usage rather than ownership of goods.
