Burberry and the British Fashion Council have linked up on a pilot programme to give students in need access to leftover Burberry materials.

Burberry has long been known for its support of creatives who have minimal resources and the BFC, aside from its role in promoting British fashion, is increasingly focused on ‘doing good’ through initiates such as the Institute of Positive Fashion and Colleges Council.

These two bodies will handle the logistics of the plan to ensure that the materials are easily accessible and will get to those who need them.

The project is in its test phase at the moment but has ambitions to roll out further and provide a model that other brands can follow.

Pam Batty, VP of Corporate Responsibility at Burberry, said the company wants to “meaningfully support the next generation of diverse voices across the country. Providing resources for these communities in a sustainable way will enable them to bring their creativity to life, and continue through their programmes with the tools they need”.

And BFC chief Caroline Rush added that one of the group’s priorities is to push towards a circular fashion economy “while supporting excellence in fashion design. Creative talent is at the heart of the industry and we are proud of our world leading colleges”.
