Lebanese designer Elie Saab's newest collection plays with fun fabrics and bold embroidery.
With Elie Saab the surprises aren't always self-evident: the designer has a fine line in classic lace, modern body-conscious gowns, and ton-sur-ton color palettes, and he has plenty of customers that know what they like. What was new this season was the way he played with his own codes, adding folkish and fantastical elements into the mix, from stunning harvest embroidery to generous volumes.
The solid color ensembles were also there, with black, creamy pink, amethyst and an intense cardinal red as the key tones. This season's silhouettes were an in-vogue mix of nostalgia for early 1970s cuts, with bell-shaped sleeves, wide-leg pants and full skirts, and a touch of the Orient. Fur and leather embellishment added some additional luxury notes.
The blurred floral bouquet prints which were presented on gowns and dresses were also picked up on the accessories including the recently introduced Poincaré bag, which now comes in a smaller size. Other footwear and accessories options included peep-toe booties and ankle-strap sandals, and clutches decorated with different pearls, embroidery, metallics and python and crocodile skins.
