On Thursday, LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault said that Brussels would be responsible if the United States and the European Union failed to find a solution to tariffs.

"If Europe is not able to negotiate intelligently, there will be consequences for a lot of companies," Arnault stated. "It will be Brussels' fault" if trade talks do not result in a satisfying resolution, he added.

Speaking at LVMH's annual shareholders' meeting, Arnault emphasized the importance of restoring free trade with the United States and reestablishing trust in international trade agreements.

LVMH, the world's largest luxury group by revenue, currently generates around a quarter of its sales in the U.S. market. Maintaining a stable trade relationship with the United States remains critical to the company's global operations.

Earlier this year, Arnault publicly praised U.S. President Donald Trump, whose inauguration he attended, for stimulating economic growth and encouraging entrepreneurship.

Since then, however, LVMH shares have dropped by 36 percent, affected by investor concerns over the implications of Trump's trade policies and the looming threat of a possible recession in the United States.
