Following the end of the Paris Fashion Week last Monday, the French Haute Couture and Fashion Federation (FHCM) has confirmed its engagement to foster emerging designers. France’s leading fashion institution has in fact introduced the position of manager in charge of initiatives for emerging labels, appointing to the role Serge Carreira, who led London label Mary Katrantzou until last June.

“The goal is to create an environment conducive to the emergence and constant development of young designer labels, by focusing on existing initiatives, introducing new policies and operating in synergy with the Paris Fashion Week, its related eco-system and the French Fashion Institute,” stated the highest institutional body of French fashion in a press release.

Carreira will be supported in the role by Christelle Cagi-Nicolau, an executive who has been active for two years within FHCM in nurturing young designers. Cagi-Nicolau previously worked at Le Bon Marché, Kenzo, Lancel and Delpozo, and will concentrate on collection planning and on product range management and development.

A Political Science and University of Paris II Assas graduate, Carreira began his career at Galeries Lafayette, then joined the Prada group, where he was notably in charge of retail merchandising for Miu Miu. In the last two years, he has worked as director of operations for emerging label Mary Katrantzou, while also lecturing at Paris’s Political Science faculty.

While the FHCM is keen to be more active in supporting emerging designers, for the time being it has provided no details of the initiatives it intends to implement in this respect.
