Fashion retailer Superdry is shutting eight of its 104 UK stores in 2025. However, the brand stressed the decision wasn’t part of its own cost-cutting measures revealed this year but a decision by a franchisee operating under licence to close its operations.

A Superdry spokesperson told Retail Gazette: “The majority of [our[ stores in the UK are operated directly and there are no plans to close any of them at the present time”.
The closures have begun May and so far includes locations in Ipswich, Luton, Telford, and Lincoln and Stoke On Trent. The Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, store is also set for closure alongside two more unnamed locations.
Superdry said the closures were unrelated to a wider cost-cutting initiative announced earlier this year. However, In April, it did admit that cost-cutting plans would include “estate optimisation”, of its store portfolio although details have yet to be released.
In May, Superdry raised £12 million from a share issue to help shore up its finances with the company's founder and CEO Julian Dunkerton supporting the fundraise by raising his personal stake in the business from 24.7% to 25.4%.
In a trading update in April, the business admitted sales were growing slower than hoped for and withdrew its profit guidance.
