Karl Templer took charge of style at the Ports 1961 luxury women’s ready-to-wear label at the end of 2025, and his role has now evolved. The British designer has been appointed artistic advisor of the Ports group as a whole “as part of a strategic refocusing,” stated Ports in a press release.

Templer will oversee “the advertising campaigns and the brand image of the entire group, while maintaining his role as creative director for the campaign and lookbook photoshoots of Ports 1961,” the group indicated, without providing any additional details. Ports simply explained that it was a matter of “better harmonising the brands within [the group’s] portfolio.”
“Ports is thrilled to have Karl Templer’s unique vision applied to its entire portfolio, providing a new, aligned, consistent and fresh perspective for all brands, something that will help bolster and fulfil Ports’s future plans,” said the group.
Templer, who for a long time worked as a fashion stylist for major magazines, has been instrumental in the relaunch of Ports 1961 in the last three years, alongside photographers Fabien Baron and Steven Meisel, rejuvenating and redefining the image of the label, which has been showing in Milan for several years. Ports 1961 is commercialised via two flagship stores in Hong Kong and Paris, as well as various multibrand retailers, chiefly in China.
In addition to Ports 1961, the Ports group also owns the Ports International brand, and the more affordable PortsPure line. In 2025, the group launched unisex label Ports V with Milan Vukmirovic.
Ports 1961 was founded by Japanese-Canadian designer Luke Tanabe in Toronto in 1961. The label was acquired in 1989 by Chinese-Canadian brothers Alfred Chan and Edward Tan, who later shifted its operations to China. It is owned by Ports International Enterprises, linked to Hong Kong-based group PCD, specialised in fashion distribution.
