Elyse Walker has come full circle. While her styling-centric eponymous store has become synonymous with West Coast chic, the stylist-slash-mathematician began her retail entrepreneur career in New York. As she opens her second New York City store on Madison Avenue, FashionNetwork.com spoke with Walker about her rapid East Coast expansion in the last nine months.

"Few people know this, but I actually opened up my first store, Capretto, on the Upper East Side in 1987, and our new Madison store is just a few blocks away," Walker said, adding, "I am a New Yorker, born and raised in Scarsdale, NY, so I always knew that I wanted to come back and open not one, but two stores which is a dream come true."
Elysewalker Madison was a store ten years in the making, while Walker sought the perfect spot. Situated between 73rd and 74th, the store resides at today's UES epicenter, near The Mark Hotel, The Carlyle, and Sant Ambroeus. The space will cater to Manhattan clients' social lives, a distinction over its West Coast clientele.
"In styling our New York client for years, we know that our customers have many social obligations and events, so we designed the store specifically to showcase a beautiful evening offering with gowns and evening accessories, which some of the west coast stores don't have the space for," she continued.
The store will carry labels such as Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Gabriela Hearst, Alex Perry, Paco Rabanne, and Altuzarra. The Madison location will also offer new jewelry designs, according to Walker, "Parisian-chic Rainbow K, antique-inspired Storrow Jewelry, and the impeccably crafted, Cadar."
The New Yorker also addressed the reality of East Coast seasonal dressing.

"The weather changes impact styling needs, so we see more desire for leather. While we love suede shoes in California, our New York clients need leather to face the elements. Also, our New Yorkers gravitate more towards more to a chic all-black look," described Walker.
Since opening her Tribeca store in November, Walker's team has gotten to know their New York customer even better at the location she describes as a neighborhood store.
"Even before opening these stores, we worked with New York clients for the past 20-plus years, so we understand their needs well. However, it has been fun to see their loyalty to New York designers. She added that designers like Gabriela Hearst, Jason Wu, Nili Lotan, TWP, and Rosetta Getty know what New York women want.
The fall 2025 selection will reference an iconic 1980s New York staple; the power blazer. "It's one trend you will find in our store. Almost reminiscent of the 80's silhouettes, blazers by Saint Laurent and Alex Perry make a strong statement this Fall. We also saw a lot of oversized styles like baggy trousers and oversized knitwear from Givenchy, Róhe and Nili Lotan," said Walker.
The 6,000-square-foot Madison store reflects Walker's design aesthetic while giving a modern New York feel; for example, concrete floors with a dark color palette paired with large, tufted velvet couches and glass chandeliers for a welcoming effect.
Walker is thrilled to be back in the neighborhood that was a big part of her life story; she also met her husband in a bar on the UES, and her sons were born at Lenox Hill Hospital. While it's maintained its cache as Manhattan's luxury mecca, Walker's new outpost will enforce that reputation.
