Outdoor clothing retailer Mountain Warehouse benefited from the arctic cold snap in the first week of December and a strong Black Friday performance to post strong Christmas trading results.

A 33.1% increase in like-for-like sales, coupled with a stellar 80% jump in online sales, meant a ‘cracking Christmas’ for the company, which sells sports clothing and equipment.
Total sales were up 38.2% on the previous year, while international sales increased by 43% in the six weeks to December 31.
Mark Neale, founder and chief executive, commented: “We had a cracking Christmas with remarkable growth across our UK stores, online and internationally.
“A business which equips customers to brave the elements will always benefit when it snows, and the December cold snap was a bit of an early Christmas present for us.
“Another was Black Friday, with sales reaching £2 million in a single day alone for the first time in our history.”
During the festive period, the retailer served 1.5 million customers, with socks, gloves, padded jackets and snow boots among the most popular items as Britons prepared their wardrobes for winter.
