In Armenia, men most often turn to plastic surgeons for nose surgery. But they make up a very small percentage of the total applicants, plastic surgeon Ashot Torosyan told NEWS.am Medicine.
"Only 3 to 5 percent of applicants for plastic surgery in Armenia are men. They change the shape of the famous ‘Armenian eagle nose,’ make it smaller, get a beautiful nose like that of [French actor] Alain Delon," he said.
The doctor, however, found it difficult to say which option of plastic surgery is the most demanded among men in the world because recently there has been an increase in the number of sex reassignment surgeries, which are also in the domain of plastic surgery.
But for women, plastic surgery procedures are more diverse: rhinoplasty—nose reshaping, facelift, blepharoplasty—eyelid correction, mammoplasty—breast augmentation, reduction, tightening, liposuction—fat removal, abdominoplasty—tummy tuck, etc.
In recent times, the number of people undergoing mammoplasty has increased considerably.
According to the surgeon, the postoperative period for the two most common plastic surgeries—rhinoplasty and mammoplasty—lasts about two weeks.
Speaking about mammoplasty contraindications, Ashot Torosyan noted: "Mammoplasty is contraindicated in case of hereditary predisposition to tumor diseases or having such a problem at the moment; the overall state of health is also important. There is no age limit."
As per the surgeon, the body positivity movement, which has gained wide momentum in the world and implies that a person should love himself the way he is and avoid aesthetic interventions as much as possible, has not led to a decrease in the number of such interventions in Armenia.
"We, Armenians, are so far behind such things. But society's attitude has changed to some extent, we have become more tolerant towards each other. We don't criticize either those who do the intervention or those who don't," said the plastic surgeon.
