Being recognised for achievements in your chosen field can give any businesses a boost. And North Face has been judged as the UK’s most prominent outdoor retail brand in 2025 in an annual report.

Analysis of 11 crucial performance indicators, including year-on-year visibility, search volume trends, and brand awareness, North Face came top of the five outdoor retail brands dominating the industry, according to Salience Search Marketing.

Through analysing the number of monthly searches for each brand and calculating an owned social score that combines the number of followers and engagement rate across major social platforms for each brand, the report unveils the most prominent outdoor retail brands in the sector.

Most prominent in brand awareness is The North Face, with over 12 million social media followers, brand searches per month of 165,00 and an owned social score of 18,724.

Second place went to Patagonia with over 7.5 million social media followers (and 201,000 and 9,682 on the other two metrics), followed by Go Outdoors (823,000 and 724), Decathlon (823,000 and 519) and Salomon (40,500 and 4,032).

When it comes to organic visibility, there has been a 5% increase in overall growth within the industry, “demonstrating [that] the demand for outdoor, activewear remains prevalent”, the report said.

And with the online visibility of brands ranked depending on the achievement score of their growth, and based on the level of impact a decline may bring to a brand, top of the tree was Jack Wolfskin. It has seen the biggest growth in year-on-year in online visibility with a 28% increase. It was followed by Snow Leader seeing a 92% jump in visibility. These were followed by The North Face, Millets and Go Outdoors.

By contrast, Decathlon has seen a drop in organic visibility with a 2% decline, despite ranking in the top five most prominent brands.

Brett Janes, managing director at Salience Search Marketing, said: “It’s great to see that the demand for outdoor retail remains prevalent, as the industry records a 5% increase in overall organic growth.

“As The North Face is named the most prominent brand in the industry, it’s crucial for other brands within the sector to focus on strategy and boost social media presence.

“When it comes to product trends, the growth and decline of the products within the industry demonstrate the importance of keeping stock relevant and fresh for the consumer.

“Overall, building a strong following and online presence across multiple channels becomes crucial in driving sales and capitalising on the expanding market demand.”
