Fancy a night out on a private jet partying like a 1980s rock star? Add to that the fact that the plane belonged to “cocaine king” Pablo Escobar, writes Robb Report.
A converted 727-100 business jet is now available to book on Airbnb in Bristol, England. Local entrepreneur Johnny Palmer came across the old jet in an aircraft graveyard and decided it could have a second life as a themed hotel or a great photoshoot location. Palmer bought the plane, stripped of its engines and wings, and towed it to his industrial estate in Bristol.
Palmer originally bought the Boeing as a cool family toy “for sleepovers with the kids,” but then the Airbnb concept was born. “There are a lot of commercial jet restoration projects out there, but this is the only business jet in the world,” he says. “We did a proper restoration so it looks like it never left the ’80s.”
The Boeing features original leather seats, a gold-plated shower and toilet, and walnut paneling. It sleeps four: two in the aft cabin, which has its own shower, two in bunk beds, and other seats that convert into sleepers.
Palmer spent two years, or about 1,000 hours, remodeling this plane into a themed hotel, adding lighting, plumbing, modern TVs, and a galley with a refrigerator. He even installed lighting in the cabin, which still has the original equipment and seats and looks like it’s preparing to evade a DEA raid.
Palmer admits that the Escobar connection may be something of an urban legend. Rumors have circulated that the plane has also belonged to an Arab prince and even the Mafia. Whatever the truth, guests still like the mystery. "People like to live the billionaire fantasy for a while and then go back to their normal lives."
Midweek overnight stays on this plane will cost around $320, while weekend overnights will cost $625.
