Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo sales in Japan returned to growth in December. That was good news following an interruption to its long series of buoyant sales reports when it revealed a dip in November.

That month’s 3.8% fall was more than made up for by the 16.9% year-on-year surge last month as far as same-store sales are concerned. And on a total basis, sales increased as much as 20.7% at the chain and at its webstore.
The company said same-store sales significantly increased in December thanks primarily to strong sales of winter clothing as the weather remained cold throughout the month. The company frequently cites the weather as a major factor in how well it does in any given month with the wrong kind of weather usually denting, seasonal sales, and the right kind sending them skywards.
The company also said it saw strong sales over the year-end holiday period.
Overall, Uniqlo’s customer numbers were also higher during December and the average purchase per customer was up a little on the financial year so far.
