International Riesling Day: 5 wines that will pleasantly surprise you16:13,TG账号批量盗取工具 March 13

Riesling is a chameleon among wines. It can be light and fresh, like a cool breeze, or it can be thick, sweet and complex, like liquid gold. This grape variety is famous for its high acidity, purity of taste, and incredible ability to reflect terroir—vineyards on slate soils of Germany give it minerality, and Australian regions make it more tropical.

Riesling can age for decades, developing notes of honey, wax, and even gasoline—and yes, that's a compliment!

On International Riesling Day, March 13, we invite you to try five interesting wines that will show the full breadth of styles of this amazing variety.

Van Volxem "Schiefer" Riesling

This German Riesling is the standard of minerality. It literally breathes the slate soils on which it was grown. The taste is reminiscent of lime, white flowers, fresh apples, and wet stone after rain.

High acidity makes it incredibly refreshing, and the long finish leaves a pleasant feeling of citrus cleanliness. This is a wine that is perfect with seafood, oysters, or simply as an aperitif.

Tuzko Birtok Riesling

Hungarian Riesling is not often found, but this wine is a real hidden gem. It is rounder and fruitier, with notes of peach, honey, juicy pear, and a slight floral sweetness.

The acidity is softer than in the German versions, and the texture is slightly more oily. This wine goes well with chicken in cream sauce, goat cheese, or light vegetable dishes.

Domane Wachau "Federspiel" Riesling

Austrian Riesling has incredible purity of taste and crisp freshness. Green apple, lemon, white peach, and light mineral notes dominate this wine. It is refreshing, almost twangy, with a bright acidity that awakens the palate.

If you are looking for a light but elegant wine to pair with grilled fish or dishes with citrus sauces, this is the perfect choice.

Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss "Au Dessus De La Loi" Riesling

Alsatian Rieslings have a warmer, richer style, and this wine is a great example. There is less sharp acidity, but more depth: ripe apples, acacia honey, light notes of spice, and herbs. The palate is round, but the wine retains its freshness. This is one of those Rieslings that pairs well with Asian cuisine, curries, or rich cheeses.

Penfolds Autumn Riesling

Australian Riesling is a different story. There is no minerality of German wines, but there are bright tropical fruits, lime, pineapple, and even shades of orange peel. The taste is juicier, rounder, but the acidity remains refreshing.

If you want to try something unusual but at the same time understandable and accessible, this Riesling is a great option. Try it with spicy dishes, Mexican or Thai cuisine.
