Sophie McGown, founder of jewellery brand EarSass, has won the Fashion Jeweller of the Year award at the inaugural Scottish Fashion Association (SFA) Awards. 

McGown, who launched the female-led earrings brand in 2025, picked up the award at an Edinburgh ceremony, beating Chisholm Hunter and Zo Jewellery to the title.

The SFA provides a platform for the next generation of designers and textile creators to showcase pioneering innovations and ideas to drive the fashion industry to net zero.

McGown said she began the business during the pandemic-induced lockdowns, aiming “to bring the statement earring back with big, bold and bang-on-trend designs”. Her focus is on lightweight creations “that feel comfortable without the typical earlobe pain from a big earring”. 

The earrings are also eco-friendly with one of the main materials using plant-based synthetic fibre cellulose acetate. The base material comes from wood pulp and cotton fibres.

Each design is named after strong influential women in McGown’s life, including her friend and fashion hero Isabella Blow.
