London’s Covent Garden has revealed a new immersive light installation in partnership with British designer and Floral Street resident Sir Paul Smith.

The display will coincide with London Fashion Week from 16 February and continue until 3 March, with Smith chosen by Covent Garden operator Shaftesbury Capital as the first partner in a line-up of several “exciting” illumination moments throughout the year

The installation, which will run from 4pm-10pm daily, includes over 1,000 lights across 36 arches of the Market Building’s North and South Halls, illuminating its arches with then brand’s signature stripe motif “creating a unique sensory light show celebrating both the historic architectural style of the Market Building and the designer’s distinctive colourful style”.

Michelle McGrath, Executive Director, Shaftesbury Capital, said: “The Market Building is the heart of the Covent Garden estate and investing in preserving and celebrating its heritage will ensure it continues to be an icon for generations to come.”

Smith added: “In many ways, Covent Garden is my London home. My shop on Floral Street was my first in London when I opened it in 1979 and my studio is only a stone’s throw away. It is wonderful to see Covent Garden’s connection to the arts is still as alive as it was when my shop first opened.”
