Marchon Eyewear is strengthening its position in Turkey. The world's third largest eyewear manufacturer, which was acquired by American group VSP in 2008, has officially announced its majority stake in local distributor Enternasyonal Gözlük. Renamed Marchon Turkey, exact figures regarding the size of the stake or the cost of the transaction are yet to be released.

Enternasyonal Gözlük was founded in July 2010 by Emre Başıbüyük and Oktay Apaydın as an exclusive eyewear distribution firm in Turkey. The two men have already previously collaborated with Marchon in the region, commencing the distribution of Nike Vision glasses back in 2008. The pair will remain part of the new firm with a minority stake, which is yet to be revealed.

Over the course of a decade, both partners have managed to consolidate Marchon's sales in the Turkish market, "despite an uncertain political and economic climate."

"The acquisition is strategically important, and allows us to obtain a major hold on the activities of our Turkish distribution," said Marchon CEO, Nicola Zotta, in a press release, adding he intends to transform the country into "one of ten major markets for our company."

Marchon Eyewear produces and distributes sunglass collections and eyewear for a number of brands including Calvin Klein, Chloé, Etro, Salvatore Ferragamo, Lacoste and Longchamp.
