British boot brand Dr Martens has been focusing heavily on sustainability in recent periods — such as its Boot Repair service in the UK — and it’s replicating the focus in the US market too with two new initiatives.

It has just unveiled Rewair, its first resale platform for the US market that offers a new life for pre-owned DMs. It’s using a team of “skilled technicians at Tersus Solutions to examine, repair, and restore countless used products” – ranging from boots to handbags – for shoppers to purchase on rewair.drmartens.com.

A trade-in program has also been introduced at two Dr Martens retail locations – Abbot Kinney in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, OR – where customers can exchange their used DMs for a $20 discount voucher towards a new pair.

Meanwhile, it’s also unveiling Genix Nappa on 26 March, in the US and internationally. This “innovative” collection features a new material created using reclaimed leather offcuts destined for landfill.

The company said that “by tackling and transforming waste, Genix Nappa is redefining strength by giving wearers a more sustainable alternative to traditional leather that’s just as durable. To create its soft yet durable material, leather offcuts are taken from tanneries and put through a process to separate the leather fibers before re-entangling them to produce a roll of re-engineered, reclaimed leather used to manufacture the footwear”.

The collection itself includes re-makes of DMs best-selling 1460, 1461, and 2976 silhouettes with pricing from $140 to $170.
