The license between the two companies was first signed in 2003, and has been renewed for a further five years until December of 2025.

The sunglasses designed by Marcolin Group for Timberland feature polarized lenses with anti-glare treatment, and most of the styles are made with at least 35% bio-based plastic. To highlight this eco-friendly move, Timberland has given the eyewear its Earthkeepers mark, a trademarked indicator of the brand's responsibly-made products that first debuted on a collection of sustainable Timberland boots in 2007.

Timberland offers footwear, apparel and accessories to consumers in countries around the world under its Timberland, Timberland Boot Company and Timberland PRO brands. The New England-based company has been going to greater lengths to create an environmentally-conscious reputation around its product range, recently collaborating with British designer Christopher Raeburn on a line of sustainably made apparel.

Founded in 1961, Marcolin Group produces eyewear for a variety of brands, including Tom Ford, Balenciaga, and Emilio Pucci. In addition to Timberland, the eyewear company has also renewed its licensing agreement with Italian luxury label Tod's until 2025.
