French leather goods brand Polène has chosen Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche to enter the department store sector. On June 3, Polène will set up shop on the Parisian department store’s ground floor, opening a directly managed space showcasing the brand’s collections of handbags, small leather goods and jewellery.
True to Polène’s pared-down style, the monochrome space will give pride of place to a sculptural table called Racine, carved in wood by an artisanal cabinetmaker in France. “Its presence reiterates Polène’s commitment to promoting local craftsmanship in its stores,” said the brand in a press release.
In addition to this new retail presence, within a venue that attracts locals and tourists alike, Polène will open a Parisian flagship at 2 rond-point des Champs-Elysées by the end of the year. The brand has indicated that work for the new store is ongoing.
Founded by the sibling trio of Antoine, Mathieu and Elsa Mothay, Polène currently operates two stores in Paris, one of them a pop-up shop, a store in New York and another in Tokyo.
