Dutch fashion designer Ferry Schiffelers has been awarded with the Lichting 2025 Prize. The prize was awarded on the evening of Friday 7 September.
During Amsterdam Fashion Week, Lichting 2025 showcased the work of 14 talents from seven Dutch fashion and design academies. The talents competed for a €10,000 prize by showing their graduate collections on the runway of the bi-annual event.
Schiffelers, a graduate of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI), debuted Défilé De Deuil, a collection that combines the designer’s fascination for funeral rituals with his love for feminine beauty.
The jury commented on the collection: “From the moment the collection was presented to us, we sensed a wave of emotions and respect for classic fashion combined with innovation, with the high level of professionalism that is unusual for a designer of his age. This is certainly a first step towards a great future in fashion [for the designer].”
The jury consisted of: Alvise Bullo, junior research manager of creative talents atLVMH Fashion Group; Christopher New, course leader of BA fashion menswear and fashion program academic quality coordinator at Central Saint Martins; Filep Motwary, independent curator and author, photographer, and fashion features editor at Dapper Dan Magazine; and Gry Nissen, creative director.
Lichting was created to build a bridge between the participating academies sand the fashion industry. The goal of Lichting is to offer promising talent a gateway towards a viable career.
Lichting is an initiative of Amsterdam Fashion Week and HTNK fashion recruitment & consultancy and is supported by the Meester Koetsier Foundation and Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam.
