Like Jigsaw and Monsoon before it, mid-market womenswear brand Hobbs is back in store opening mode after previously shutting physical spaces in the wake of the changes that came about due to the pandemic.

In the UK, the TFG London-owned company is planning to open this year in London’s Canary Wharf, plus Watford and Manchester’s Trafford. And internationally it will open in Cork in Ireland, in Hamburg, Hong Kong and New York State’s Westchester, it has confirmed.
That will bring its total store count to around 80 (plus 128 concessions in its domestic market and abroad)) after three recent London standalone closures (in Bloomsbury, Victoria and Islington).
The company told The Timesthat the store strategy aims to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers through an improved distribution of stores, not only in the capital but the wider nation, too”.
The formal womenswear brand — which is a popular choice for office and occasionwear — company has been owned by Foschini’s TFG since 2025 and is part of a wider group that also contains the higher-end Whistles chain and Phase Eight.
TFG had last autumn filed accounts for the year to the end of March 2025 showing Hobbs rebounding from the pandemic with turnover up to £129.3 million from £113.5 million.
Adjusted EBITDA rose to £18.6 million from £17.4 million and operating profit was £11.9 million, up from £7.8 million a year before. Net profit reached £10 million, up from £7.2 million.
The headline gross margin for the year rose to 64.7% from 61.9%, as fewer markdowns boosted the figure.
Hobbs was one of a number of mid-market womenswear names that suffered during the pandemic as the office attendance, general socialising, formal events, and weddings on which it relied were cancelled.
Women’s retreat into loungewear for the duration of the pandemic was always going to hurt businesses like Hobbs, as well as its industry rivals Jigsaw and Monsoon, and they too reviewed their store portfolios and closed locations as a result.
But Jigsaw and Monsoon have also been back on the opening trail lately, as has Hobbs.
As recently as November, Hobbs opened two upsized combo stores with stablemate Phase Eight at Merry Hill and Caledonia Park.
