Boohoo Group’s Debenhams management is upbeat post-Black Friday saying that it was the “only apparel retailer to trend on Google for an impressive 17 consecutive hours”.

We don’t know how that translates into sales, but it added that  with as many as two billion people using search engines on Black Friday, “this achievement underscores Debenhams’ pivotal role in shaping consumer sentiment during the peak shopping season”.

The company said its “prowess in capturing the attention of online shoppers highlights its strong brand presence, and its ability to connect with its consumers. Debenhams has effectively engaged with customers, driving interest and traffic to its extensive range of products”.

CEO Dan Finley described recent days as “a great online shopping weekend”.

Debenhams was acquired by Boohoo in the wake of the devastation wreaked by the pandemic and despite Boohoo’s well publicised problems, seems to have been a success for its owner. In fact, the parent company was so impressed that on news of its own CEO moving on, it quickly appointed Debenhams’ CEO Finley to the addition role of group chief executive.

The company said the top trending fashion items for Black Friday included Dorothy Perkins’ velvet sequin wrap dress, Aus Wooli Australia sheepskin wool Sydney slippers, a Wallis military coat, Aus Wooli Australia short sheepskin ankle boots and Dorothy Perkins riding boots. Boohoo Group owns both the Wallis and Dorthy Perkins brands.

For beauty, the top items were Prada Paradoxe Eau de Parfum, Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler and Dryer, YSL Black Opium EdP and Libre EdP, and Armani Stronger with You Intensely EdP.
