French luxury fashion house Rabanne has unveiled what's being called the "world's most expensive bag" during its Spring/Summer 2025 show in Paris.
The 18-karat gold Nano metal bag is a unique homage to the iconic minidress the late designer created for style icon Françoise Hardy in 1968, WWD reports.
The head-turning piece was crafted from 1,000 gold plates and encrusted with diamonds—the "most expensive dress" of its time.
Hardy, who was attending a jewelry fair in the City of Light, had to be transported in an armored truck and escorted by security guards.
The new 1969 Golden Bag is the result of a collaboration between Maison Rabanne and jeweler Arthus Bertrand, creative director Julien Dossena told sister site Robb Report.
The bag, which costs a whopping $250,000, took 100 hours to create and was handcrafted from interlocking gold discs.
Since the brand’s founding in 1966, Rabanne has been known for its futuristic, space-age creations, embracing unusual materials like metal, paper, and even plastic.
During Rabanne’s most recent presentation at Paris Fashion Week, the label debuted two other innovative accessories as part of this season’s ready-to-wear collection.
The 1969 Glass Bag, made up of glass pastilles from Venini, the famed Italian glass company founded in Venice in 1921.
Also, Rabanne presented on the catwalk the Ceramic Bag from 1969, made from tiny clay discs from the Parisian workshop Astier de Villatte.
