Brands closing stores might have dominated the headlines in the past two years, but UK retail is currently seeing a store opening boom and the new Battersea Power Station mall has seen no shortage of labels ready to sign up for space at the premium development.

And the latest is a really big name with Zara having been announced as the first brand set to open on Electric Boulevard, “an exciting new high street for the capital”.
The new store will also be its first location south of the river in central London. It’s due to open its doors later this year.
The 48,800 sq ft store will carry all of Zara’s product ranges under one roof (which means its Home interiors product as well as its fashion collections will be there) across a two-level site in Prospect Place that was designed by Frank Gehry.
The fact that it's opening on Electric Boulevard is key as it’s an important part of the development that will run from the south of the Power Station, between Gehry’s Prospect Place and Foster + Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens. The new high street will offer a mix of bars and restaurants, office space, shops, a park, community hub and a new 164 room hotel from art’otel (the brand’s first hotel to open in the UK).
The overall development already has a number of impressive names signed up to take space, including Ray-Ban, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, The Kooples, Mango, Reiss, Aēsop and Calvin Klein.
The retail and leisure development will start opening this September.
Battersea Power Station Development Company CEO Simon Murphy said: “We are creating a completely new high street for London is a testament to the continued desirability of this unique project. With our very own London Underground station and river bus pier, we’re also set to be one of the best-connected shopping, dining and cultural areas in the capital.”
